Please share this message with your friends and family:

Dear Coal Creek Canyon Community,
My name is Tricia Logan and I am at teacher at Coal Creek Canyon K-8 and am currently sponsoring a trip for the 7th and 8th graders to go to and experience Washington DC. Unfortunately, we have a few students that are short the necessary funds. We have been working hard and fundraising throughout the year, but with such a large class those raised amounts are spread thin. I am asking for any kindness from our community in the form of monetary donations. We are still about $5000 short! Any amount is helpful. Cash or checks can be sent to the school in care of Sheryl Roberts (the Principal’s Secretary). We sincerely appreciate any help you can give us. We are getting close to our deadline and any donations would need to be in by January 10th.

January Meetings

image002

We hope you are enjoying our winter break.  As a reminder, we are hosting two very important meetings Monday night, January 9th, which is our first day back at school.

From 6 – 7 is the Student Based Budgeting Priorities meeting.  This is when Ms. Livingston will ask for the school communities feedback about the budget for next year.  Under the Student Based Budgeting model, Ms. Livingston is responsible for building a budget based on the specific needs of our school.  She gathers feedback from the staff and community to make sure we are in alignment with where we think money needs to be spent.  This is a very important opportunity to influence the priorities for the school in the upcoming year.  Please come and share your opinions.

After the budget priorities meeting, we will be hosting our regularly scheduled PTSA General Membership meting will be held from 7 – 8 pm.  During this meeting, we will make some decisions about some recent financial requests and develop action items around our PTSA male participation goal. We have LOTS of fundraising items to talk about, and we will plan for a few upcoming events.

Please click below to preview the agenda.
January Agenda

We will also be approving the meeting notes from the December meeting. Please click the link below to review them.

Upcoming Events
All School Skate, Teacher Appreciation Lunch, Egg Drop & Winter Classroom Parties
Wednesday, December 21
9:00 am – 3:30 pm
Our long-lasting tradition (and, personally, my favorite!) on the last day of school before winter break, we have an all school ice skating party at APEX.  Volunteers are needed on the ice, if you are able to join us at APEX.  (Permission slips were sent home last week in the Friday Folders.)
When we return from skating, parent take over teacher and staff duties, so the staff can enjoy a holiday meal together.  If you would like to provide food for the staff lunch and/or volunteer for covering their responsibilities during lunch, then please sign up at http://signup.com/go/c759F9  Let’s show our teachers how much we appreciate them by treating them to some delicious food and giving them a bit of a break!
After recess, we will be doing the Egg Drop to see which team’s design successfully prevent their egg from breaking.  Then we will go to the classroom parties.  You should have heard from your Room Parent or Teacher about how you can support each of those events.
Obviously, it is a BIG day and your support of this celebration is greatly appreciated.

The PTSA is holding our annual evergreen fundraiser.  These items smell wonderful, are really well made and last quite a while!  You can order up until 11/17 (for delivery to the school around Dec 5).  Orders can be placed on our website, or you can email Tami Lawson your order and deliver a check directly to the school by 11/17.  There are also a few direct ship options if your child’s out of town family members would like to support us too… or if you would like to send them a lovely season-celebrating gift!

Help us get a 3-D Printer!!

We have launched a second Donors Choose campaign.  Donors Choose works just like KickStarter or GoFundMe, but they are specific to meeting the needs of schools and classrooms.  Ms. Norris is fundraising for a 3-D printer.  This piece of equipment can give our students an opportunity to utilize team-work and problem-solving skills.  Students will have an opportunity to propose, develop and perfect possible solutions developed around specific projects.  To support this project, please visit: https://www.donorschoose.org/project/stem-3-d-printing/2316896  Please share this link with your friends and family, too.  Anyone can support the project from anywhere!

Help Wanted

We are in need of a fundraising chair person or chairpersons!  The Fundraising Chair oversees the fundraising activities of the PTSA.  A lot can even be done at home since most PTSA fundraising is done through events.  This position may research new opportunities for fundraising and may help pursue grants.  It can be divided up into specific efforts.  For example, one person can be working on grants, another person can be managing the silent auction donations, another person could be promoting the alternative fundraiser, another person can be organizing the reusable bag fundraiser.  Working a fundraising role can help build or refine marketing and organizational skills that are applicable to many different professional roles.  If you are interested, please contact Jody Dickson, jody@dickson.org.

Stay tuned on our website http://www.ccck8ptsa.org or on our Facebook page www.facebook.com/CCCK8PTSA for more information on upcoming programs. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, concerns, please feel free to contact me.
